Appendix Four
A. In order to renew professional or provisional licenses, an applicant must complete continuing education units that relate directly to professional growth and development.
B. Professional licensees must obtain a minimum of twenty clock hours of continuing education during every two year licensure period. These continuing education hours may only be credited if they are acquired during every two year licensure period. Those applicants who were granted initial licenses active from October 1, 1992 to December 31, 1994, will be allowed to submit continuing education hours acquired during that same period. Provisional licenses must obtain ten hours of continuing education during their provisional license year in order to renew their provisional license. Individuals with professional licenses in both speech-language pathology and audiology must obtain 40 hours of continuing education credits in each area during the two year license period.
C. The Board will accept credits issued by the following organizations:
The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association
The West Virginia Speech-Language-Hearing Association
The West Virginia Hearing Society
The National Institute for Hearing Instrument Studies
The American Academy of Audiology
D. A licensee shall submit verification of continuing education credits earned from the above organizations. The Board will mail renewal applications to all licensees during the fourth (4th) quarter of the year the license expires.
E. Continuing Education activities from the other organizations must directly relate to the professional growth and development of speech-language pathologists and audiologists, and requires prior approval of the Board for credit. In order to request credit for continuing education hours from organizations other than those listed in the paragraph C, the applicant must submit the following information prior to the continuing education event:
The name of the activity
The name and credentials of the speaker/presenter
The date and hours of the activity (include the agenda)
The location of the sponsoring agency
The contact person and/or coordinator of the activity and their telephone number
The goals of the activity
The methods and materials used in the presentation
The target group for the activity
The total continuing education credit hours requested for the activity
The licensee will be required to provide proof of attendance at all activities for which credit is requested.
